Grade A or B plywood should be preferred for furniture and interior applications. For construction formwork and structural applications, Grade C or D is sufficient and provides a cost advantage. For cladding applications, Grade A should be preferred in terms of the surface’s compatibility with paint and varnish.

Why Is Wood Species Selection Important?

When buying plywood, the wood species directly determines the mechanical properties and visual quality of the product. The main wood species and their applications are as follows.

Beech plywood is preferred in furniture and cabinet production for its hardness and durability. Poplar plywood is suitable for packaging and general-purpose use due to its lightness and economical nature. Birch plywood stands out particularly in painted furniture projects for its smooth surface and uniform grain structure. Pine plywood is preferred in construction and exterior cladding applications for its natural texture and durability.

How Should Thickness and Dimensions Be Selected?

In the plywood purchasing process, thickness selection is determined according to the intended use. Thicknesses of 4–6 mm are preferred for furniture back panels and drawer bases; 12–18 mm for cabinet doors and middle shelves; and 18–25 mm for floor coverings and structural applications.

The standard plywood dimension is 1220×2440 mm, but production in different dimensions can be arranged for special projects. For custom dimension orders, attention should be paid to minimum order quantities and production lead times.

Moisture Resistance and Usage Environment

When buying plywood, the moisture conditions of the environment where it will be used must be taken into account. Standard adhesive plywood is sufficient for dry indoor environments. MR (Moisture Resistant) grade should be preferred for humid indoor environments such as kitchens and bathrooms. For exterior and outdoor applications, WBP (Weather and Boil Proof) grade plywood produced with phenolic adhesives should be used.
