Sizing
The veneer sizing process is the production stage in which plywood panels that have passed through the pressing and quality control stages are cut to standard or custom dimensions using precision cutting machines. Sizing is a critical stage that determines the final dimensional quality of the panel and offers flexible production options in line with customer requirements. It is very important that the cutting is performed with sharpened, keen circular blades; otherwise, splinters and cracks may form on panel surfaces. It is also essential that the width and length dimensions of the product are at a perfect 90-degree angle.
Why Is Sizing Important?
The edges of plywood panels coming out of the pressing stage are irregular, rough, and not at exact dimensions. Through the sizing process, panels are brought to standard dimensions and edge quality is improved. Correct sizing guarantees the dimensional accuracy of the product delivered to the customer, minimizes cutting waste, and increases packaging and storage efficiency.
Standard and Custom Dimensions
The most commonly used standard dimension in plywood production is 1220×2440 mm, although different standard sizes are also produced to meet the needs of various industries. In addition, custom-dimension cutting is also carried out according to customer requirements. Custom panel sizes for furniture manufacturers, project-based cutting dimensions for construction companies, and dimensions conforming to different standards for export orders can all be produced. As Alesta Naturel, we have the capacity to respond to non-standard dimension requests in a short time.
Sizing Machines and Precision
The sizing process is carried out using panel saw machines. The cutting precision of the machines can be adjusted to millimetric tolerances. The sharpness of cutting tools is regularly checked; worn tools are immediately replaced to continuously maintain cutting quality and edge smoothness. Appropriate support systems are used during sizing to avoid damaging the panel surface.
Edge Quality After Sizing
After the sizing process, panel edges are inspected. Where necessary, edge sanding or trimming is applied to achieve a smooth and clean edge surface. Edge quality is of great aesthetic importance, especially for panels intended for use on visible surfaces.
Waste Management
Offcuts and waste generated during the sizing process are evaluated. Trim pieces are set aside for use in the production of smaller-format panels or other wood products. This increases raw material efficiency and reduces production costs.
As Alesta Naturel, we carry out the sizing process with high-precision machines at both our Ukraine and Sakarya Akyazı facilities. We respond quickly to both standard and custom dimension requests and deliver quality products with guaranteed dimensional accuracy.

F.A.Q
-
What standard dimensions are plywood produced in?
The most common standard dimension is 1220x2440 mm, but different standard sizes such as 1250x2500 mm and 1500x3000 mm are also produced. Different standards may be required depending on the industry and intended use.
-
Can production be done in custom dimensions?
Yes, as Alesta Naturel, we carry out sizing in non-standard custom dimensions according to customer requirements. We respond promptly to project-based dimension requests from various sectors, from furniture manufacturers to construction companies.
-
How important is sizing precision?
Dimensional precision is critically important, especially in furniture and interior applications. Out-of-tolerance cuts lead to assembly problems, increased waste, and customer dissatisfaction. Cutting quality at millimetric precision is therefore an indispensable part of the production process.
-
Can the panel surface be damaged during sizing?
When the correct equipment and support systems are used, sizing does not damage the panel surface. At Alesta Naturel, appropriate support systems are used to protect the panel surface, and the sharpness of cutting tools is regularly checked.
